Burt’s Bees Outdoor… Discover. Experience. Protect.

Burt’s Bees has created a special line of Outdoor products that treat and protect skin naturally, so you can make the most of the great outdoors while also helping sustain the environment. Burt's Bees' Outdoor products’ eco-friendly formulas and packaging care for you and the environment:

  • Natural cleansers made from coconut and sunflower oils instead of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). SLS is a synthetic ingredient found in many face, hair and body products.. It is used as a foaming agent, and has no inherent moisturizing properties. Furthermore, SLS does not meet the standards of the Natural Product Association.
  • Beeswax and Japan Fruit Wax instead of petrolatum. Petrolatum is often found in over-the-counter skin care products and is a non-renewable hydrocarbon made from crude oil.
  • Titanium dioxide instead of oxybenzone. Oxybenzone is a synthetic active commonly found in sunscreens.
  • Sustainable packaging instead of non-recyclable, non-portable, or non-usable packaging that is still often used today. Burt's Bees' packaging protects the environment by using sustainable packaging that is portable, reusable or recyclable.

Burt's Bees Frequently Asked Questions

Are your products hypoallergenic?

There is no defined methodology to test for allergic reactions in beauty or personal care products, nor does the FDA regulate use of the term "hypoallergenic." Consequently, Burt's Bees does not position their products as hypoallergenic. A list of ingredients for each product is available on individual product information pages on this site.

Are your products safe for pregnant women to use?

Burt's Bees recommends that any expectant mother check with her physician before changing her skin care routine with their products, or any other line of products.

How long will my Burt's Bees products stay fresh and what is the best way to store them?

Burt's Bees products are made with natural ingredients. They purposely present our products in smaller portions so you finish them while their ingredients are still fresh and providing their maximum effectiveness. As such, we recommend you store creams and oils in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Creams may be stored in their cartons for extra protection.

Where are Burt's Bees products made?

Over 95% of Burt's Bees products are made right in their own manufacturing plant in Durham, NC. The rest are made by other respectable American manufacturers.

Do you test on animals and do your products contain animal-derived ingredients?

Burt's Bees does NOT conduct product or ingredient tests of any kind on animals. A few of their products contain ingredients derived from animals such as beeswax, royal jelly, milk and carmine.

I am allergic to bees. Can I still use your products?

Burt's Bees does not use actual bee venom in their products – only bee by products such as honey, beeswax, royal jelly and honey powder. However, if you are allergic to bee by-products, then Burt's Bees does not suggest using their products. They recommend that you contact your health care provider when changing your skin care regimen to find out which products are best for you.
