Burt's Bees Chemical Free Sunscreen

Burt's Bees Chemical Free 15 SPF Sunscreen with Hemp Seed Oil protects your skin from the sun naturally, without chemicals! Burt's Bees Chemical-Free Sunscreen is rich with Titanium Dioxide minerals, Hemp Seed oil, and Wheat Grass extract to create a skin barrier that naturally reflects sun's harmful rays. This non-greasy formula provides broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection and helps keep skin hydrated. Calendula, Witch Hazel and Goldenseal, an natural anti-inflammatory, soothe and soften.

How Chemical Free Sunscreen Works
This non-greasy formula provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and helps keep skin hydrated without using chemical sunscreen actives like octinoxate and oxybenzone. Instead, titanium dioxide, a naturally-occuring mineral creates a micro-fine barrier on your skin to reflect the sun's harmful rays. Burt's Bees' natural sunscreen is effective immediately upon application and safe for kids.

Featured Ingredient
Titanium Dioxide: Occurring naturally as the mineral rutile, this substance is used chiefly as a white pigment and as an opacifier. It reflects light, so (when identified as such) can be considered a natural sun block.

Benefits of the Burt’s Bees chemical-free sunscreen
At Burt’s Bees, they use only natural active ingredients in their sun protecting products. Unlike sunscreens that use synthetic active ingredients, they use titanium dioxide, a naturally occurring mineral. As with all their products, their chemical-free sunscreens are also free of parabens, SLS, petrochemicals and phthalates.

A physical sunscreen works by creating a micro-fine barrier—a physical block—that sits on top of the skin. The barrier, created by titanium dioxide, reflects the UVA and UVB rays away from your skin. Once the sunscreen is applied, the physical block goes to work immediately.

In contrast, synthetic active ingredients need time to be effective — up to 30 minutes. That’s because chemical sunscreens have to soak into the skin before they begin to work. They do not create a physical barrier to combat the sun’s harmful rays.

Burt's Bees Frequently Asked Questions
Are your products hypoallergenic?
There is no defined methodology to test for allergic reactions in beauty or personal care products, nor does the FDA regulate use of the term "hypoallergenic." Consequently, Burt's Bees does not position their products as hypoallergenic. A list of ingredients for each product is available on individual product information pages on this site.

Are your products safe for pregnant women to use?
Burt's Bees recommends that any expectant mother check with her physician before changing her skin care routine with their products, or any other line of products.

How long will my Burt's Bees products stay fresh and what is the best way to store them?
Burt's Bees products are made with natural ingredients. They purposely present our products in smaller portions so you finish them while their ingredients are still fresh and providing their maximum effectiveness. As such, we recommend you store creams and oils in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Creams may be stored in their cartons for extra protection.

Where are Burt's Bees products made?
Over 95% of Burt's Bees products are made right in their own manufacturing plant in Durham, NC. The rest are made by other respectable American manufacturers.

Do you test on animals and do your products contain animal-derived ingredients?
Burt's Bees does NOT conduct product or ingredient tests of any kind on animals. A few of their products contain ingredients derived from animals such as beeswax, royal jelly, milk and carmine.

I am allergic to bees. Can I still use your products?
Burt's Bees does not use actual bee venom in their products – only bee by products such as honey, beeswax, royal jelly and honey powder. However, if you are allergic to bee by-products, then Burt's Bees does not suggest using their products. They recommend that you contact your health care provider when changing your skin care regimen to find out which products are best for you.
